Workshop A - Wingate Inn
Jesse Parent & Joe Kyle Rogan

Get in Your Heart
Tired of getting stuck in your head? Learn how to keep a scene going and feel your way to success. We'll show you how you can easily heighten a situation once you recognize how everyone feels, including you.

About the Instructors
Jesse Parent started improvising in 1992. Focused on improv community, Jesse started UtahImprov.com in 2002 and has since expanded its mission of community and promotion to education as well. Also deeply involved in the national improv community, he has traveled and performed in over 15 national improv festivals, taking classes as he travels from Mick Napier, Joe Bill, TJ Jagadowski, Mark Sutton, Charna Halpern, and many others. Jesse has taught in Massachusetts, Arizona, North Carolina, Florida, and Utah and promotes a mantra of emotional affectation in scene work.

Joseph Kyle Rogan is the founder of Salt Lake City's award winning KYSOff Comedy Improv. An accomplished actor and teacher, he trained at the University of Utah, where he successfully completed the prestigious Actor Training and Theatre Education programs. Currently, Joe teaches theatre full time at Glendale Middle School in SLC. Joe believes in founding scenes in bold, committed characters, and then heightening through intense emotional development.

Workshop B - Viad Center
Dave Hill

Character Work
Do you feel like your characters are one dimensional? Is it hard for you to get into a character at the top of a scene and "stake a claim" for yourself? This workshop focuses on teaching you several approaches to character work that will give you powerful tools to get you started off on the right character foot in your scenes. It then applies those tools to the rest of the scene and the challenge of helping your characters react and evolve instead of just staying one note.

About the Instructor
Dave Hill is a Chicago native and veteran improvisational performer, writer and actor who has been performing at IO (Chicago and West) for several years. Trained at ImprovOlympic, the Annoyance Theater and the Second City, he was a member of the celebrated house team People of Earth at IO Chicago in addition to performing with numerous other wonderful ensembles including Atlantis and Jimmy Jimmy Do. At the IO West, he performs with King Ten and Cog as well as regularly appearing in the Armando show and the occasional sketch affair. He has done several commercials and TV and film work, but he does not think it germane to this biography.

Workshop Session II
Saturday - April 22
2 hour workshops 1:30pm - 3:30pm
Cost: $30.00

Workshop A - Wingate Inn
Fuzzy Gerdes & Shaun Himmerick

Risk Taking Performance
Break out of safe choices, focus on you as a performer, and learn to better take care of yourself on stage. Decide what rules apply to you and which don’t.

About the Instructors
It’s hard to believe, but Bare is just two men: Fuzzy Gerdes and Shaun Himmerick. They’ve been performing together in one group or another for ten years (with a break for Shaun’s unmentionable Colorado years). They both have impeccable improv pedigrees, with training from institutions like the ImprovOlympic and Annoyance Theater and from instructors like Del Close, Mick Napier, and Keith Johnstone. These days they live in the same apartment in Chicago, argue over whose turn it is to do the dishes, and work on their wildly inventive improv.

As Bare, Shaun and Fuzzy have performed at festivals and theaters throughout the United States, Canada, and New Zealand.

Workshop B - Viad Center
Chuck Charbeneau & Clif Highfield

Multiple Paths, One mountain Top
No matter how you approach improvisation, there is a way to bring it all to the stage without conflict. In this workshop we will investigate how you approach improvisation and show you how to blend with improvisers of all styles, shapes and color.

About the Instructors
Clifton and Chuck pride themselves on their use of different improvisational styles to build a class environment that encompasses students of all levels and backgrounds. Clifton, a 10 year veteran performer and graduate of the Improv Olympic, approaches improvisation from a very "action first" point of view and has been a part of Planet Improv's improv education program since it began. Chuck, a 15 year veteran performer, student of Paul Sills and the Improv Olympic and an accomplished mime and actor, has been teaching improvisation since 1991 as an independent instructor and as the director of the Planet Improv training center. He has used improvisation as a tool to teach children of all ages about creativity and engineering and to teach stage and screen actors about themselves and how to approach their craft. He has worked with business men and corporations in the areas of communication and productive creativity and, most importantly, has continuously worked with other improvisers to help them discover their craft, improve their skills, and to realize how they relate to each other on and off the stage.
